I used to work on a commercial fishing boat..we would sometimes catch jellyfish with the fish..and when they were all mixed together, the fish would be flipping around..putting up a spray...and this spray would sting bare skin.

Watched an interesting report recently about a young marine biologist who sort of dedicates her life to jelly fish. She reported that they even sting THROUGH her wet suit when she is doing her scuba diving ting about counting and observing ...

I wonder how? Maybe a wetsuit allows some molecules to pass through..so it can breath.

How can a mere artist compete with such natural beauty?
My favorite place at the Monterey Bay Aquarium is the jelly fish room - from cylindrical displays of the most miniature irridescent varieties to a full wall of large floating beauties.

You have captured their delicate beauty so well. Excellent composition.

pfffhhh . Montery Bay Aquarium. Once - many, many years again I was standing in front of it. But I didn't have the time to check in - chances lost. Just a quick picture of the "Cannery Row" road sign .... :p
Jelly fish? Absolutely strange creatures - and WHY this beauty down there in the dark ....

Many beautiful creatures create their own light in the depths of the darkness.
And many humans capture and destroy what they think is beautiful.

The most astonishing thing for me is, WHY are they so beautiful? Down there, where nobody can see them, normally. Thank you very much, Koni :dalove:

Well, Lúcia, last Friday morning, weather was not very nice in the north of France. So I decided to visit the local aquarium [link] and beside doing some fiddling around with long-exposure times I try the jelly fish in a more conventional way :-) Now seeing the results I wish I could back, soon ....

I believe you would like to go back and do some more of these shots ...! Colours, light, shapes, those little white spots... everything looks fantastic!
And thanks for the link! In Lisbon we have the Oceanário, built for the Expo 98. They say it's the second biggest aquarium in the world and it's certainly amazing.

What a beautiful set of sea-creature-emoticons here, Lúcia. And I always love to get an octopus glomp, as you know very well ;-)
I am always wonder WHY these creatures are so pretty, living down in the dark where no one can see ...
With regard to aquariums I was very much impressed by the one in Barcelona down at the waterfront, and I missed Monterey, though I was standing in front of it, many, many years ago. It has a VERY good reputation ....
